ohoh cherie oui

I always start over. I start a diary or sketchbook, I try to keep up, and the next thing I know is that I totally forgot about it. Still, I'm doing the same study I did three years ago and i'm almost graduated. So thats one thing I will (probably) finish. And the best thing; I still like it. Anyway; new blog, same band, same me, new chapter though:

And the ones who deserve it, they'll never understand it.

Scandinavia

So i am with one of my best friends in a city that never sleeps. Well the sun disappears at 12, and at 2 it is light again.. It is so nice, she is one of the nicest, honest and best people i know. I know few people who are like her, who will never lie, never betray me and just say everything what comes to her mind. Who is not fake, because people can be fake I heard and experienced, she is real. And this is real, and that is why I am writing it although the Internet is not really real..

Anyway, last week I was with my ever best friend Willem (also known as the boyfriend) in Denmark. Everyday we made our way to the beach, to the swimmingpool, to the city of Copenhagen which is a very fashionable, interesting city. To bad I missed Regina Spektor! I saw she was performing there the day before..but it couldnt ruin my days of the two of us, shrek, bikes, design centres, apple cider, little kittens, football, music, books, and so on!

One thing bothered me, one of the last days of this perfect week I heard i could do the support for Adam Green. Adam Green, think Moldy Peaches and Babys gonna be alright. I could either go back, or stay. I chose to stay..and no this is not really rock n roll and all, but I really felt I needed this holiday. When I come back there will be the parade, a lovely festival I have been working on for years. It is going to be great, despite from the fact that my world has changed and there are some evil people in Amsterdam, but its alright. I will just ignore it and have fun. There are tons of people out there who are honest and nice, even when you do not expect it. So I really hope we meet again, another day, Adam..

Anyhow I think I made a lovely photodocumentary about my trip, but haven't developed anything yet. I really want to do something with it..who knows.

For now lets just listen to this, while I am up hangover but happy in the couch, waiting for me friend to get up so we can explore Gothenburg, go to astrid lindgren land, and eat a lot of knackebrod.

Summer in Amsterdam

LONDON with Florence, John and Jehn.

Bird on the Wire

so the miss-spellings we had were: bird on a wire, birds on the wire, bird on the wing and the most funny one we heard during our little dutch tour this weekend: birth on a wire. hahahahaha

The Netherlands.

I love Amsterdam, it is my home and it always will be. I moved away, came back, and probably will move again in a few years. But I'll always come back to this city of my friends, parks, family, music and love.

One thing I really hate about The Netherlands is its politics of the last years. I thought Amsterdam was an exception to the right wing young students, but yesterday I found out it isn't. Amsterdam, built by hippies and the sixties, is supposed to be full of freedom, open-minded people and ideals. Yesterday the leader of VVD, party of snobs and right wing egocentrics, had his speech in our most beloved pop-church of Amsterdam; paradiso. He claimed to be so honored that he stood there, place were the Rolling Stones played and Lady Gaga(yes he tried to be very very modern and hip for god sakes). He ended his speech with ' and we will stop squatting', do not touch anyone's property, blablabla bullshit. In any other city in this tiny narrow minded country I expected applause, but in Amsterdam there was supposed to be boo-ing and chair-throwing. In stead people just stood there, gave him an applause. While his 'so beloved pop temple' paradiso is even a squatted building from origin!

In the end I think most of the dutch youngsters are all justnarrow minded, rich kids. Or they pretend to be. I hate it. I think this would've never happened 40 years ago. They just stand there in their 'punk' tshirts, bought at H&M, and in the end of the day they all go home, on their vespa's, to their parents paid houses and pretentious shitt.

London

Last weekend I visited my friend Florence in London. I had an amazing time with loads of bands and good music, shopping and hours of national portrait gallery. The last day I spent at Nico and Camilles place, we made an applepie and it was the best tarte tartin (or something) ever. They are French from origin so what do you expect..

The band of my pie making friends is amazing, check it out on good old myspace: http://www.myspace.com/johnjehn. Another great band I saw this weekend at the Old Blue Last was this band named Colours. Maybe I spell it wrong but I can't find them on myspace. They were brilliant though and reminded me of the Big Pink.

Dutch elections and my favourite flee market seller

hahahahaha

doorsiedoorsiedoors

Before you slip into unconsciousness
I’d like to have another kiss
Another flashing chance at bliss
Another kiss, another kiss

The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
We’ll meet again, we’ll meet again

Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
Deliver me from reasons why
You’d rather cry, I’d rather fly

The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I’ll drop a line

High Violet

It's in my honey, it's in my milk.
It's only my half of heart alone,
On the water,
Cover me in rag and bones, sympathy.
Cause I don't want to get over you.
I don't want to get over you.

The new album of the National, High Violet, takes my breath away. For example the song England..the piano and the feeling he lost today. Also the song sorrow is one of my favourites. I can't chose and cannot wait till see them play live. What would we be without music? I think cold, emotionless, bored creatures.

Spotify

We have got it in Holland aaaaaaaaaaaa
THE BEST THING for people who love music. You can find ANYTHING you want.
Who needs a DJ now..? ;)
I started with the soundtrack of 500 days of summer, although I've got all the songs separately haha

The band who first opened my eyes and showed me cheesy tunes and lyrics can be absolutely wonderful were Belle and Sebastian. I remember this roadtrip I made with a friend when I was about 15, in our discmans we had only two cds: Kings of Convenience and Belle and Sebastian.

I can hardly listen to their music without thinking about this first time away, on my own. That is a good thing, because the trip was the best. And the music is too.

Listen to THIS:

It's the best. My man went photographing them, and they are really nice people too. The video might be a little bit too stylish, but I love it. The music, the girls. Everything about it.

So put on your new dress, the shoes you never wear, over knee socks, and listen listen listen.

New York

I have been there twice. And like all the young, hip girls nowadays I claim that I will be living there one day. One day... One day, when I do have enough money. Or, more likewise, when the time is right to start my internship. I think I will try to fill out as many applications (think Guggenheim, the MoMa, the Met, etc. etc. etc.) as possible when I have to do my final Master internship. Or maybe sooner. I don't know if it is hard, I guess it is. Otherwise I will find a lovely small gallery where they need my help, I just have to! Like my friend did last year..her stories made me so unbelievably jealous.

New York is just fascinating me. The coolness of Williamsburg combined with the most upper chic Manhattan. You never know if that guy in his lumberjack outfit is just a lumberjack, or some famous writer. Possibly both.

There are millions of possibilities in the field where I am planning to work; the art world...tumtumtum. Young artists starting projects here and there, platforms open up every day and do not forget the number of exhibitions that open everyday. One better than the other, still it is happening. All day and night, people are inventing and working on the things they love most. Call me naive, that is really how I see it. One big city, filled with people full of dreams. It doesnt matter if they come true, as long as you try.

Like last time, I just bumped into a great band playing on Washingtonsquare. Later that night they were performing in Williams-burg in this adorable cafe. I have to say I really love the music scene over there. Grizzlybear, Department of Eagles, Lissy Trullie, to name just a few. Not to forget St. Vincent, most inspiring artist of the moment if you ask me. I am also quiet fond of the noise-scene, like Telepathe and These are powers. Although sometimes I do not fully understand the music...

So while I am at home studying and dreaming about New York there are a few things you can do. Read books about it, watch movies about it (or watch sex and the city/ gossip girl. to reveal my guilty pleasure...although gossip girl had this living room performance of Sonic Youth), or read blogs about it. One of my favourite blogs is the Diary of Terry Richardson. The photographer, accused of having sex with his models, photographs his New York (-cool) life in a way you almost feel part of it. Wandering trough Union square, the village and Brooklyn you can follow the (famous or not famous) people he meets, and the casualty about it.

Funny snapshots, taken during photoshoots, dinners, gigs and above all; walks through the city.
